About NICE ONE ENTERTAINMENT
Nice One Entertainment (NOE) was formed in early 2002. We're a company that
specialises in creating original and fun-filled fictional hero IP (intellectual
property), suitable for comicbooks, animation, games, toys, edutainment
figurines and general merchandising.
Though
specialising in original NOE material, such as Singapore's first ever international
full-colour super-hero comic, Get Carter! The Last Dragon Scout, we also
create specific action-hero concepts for clients. Our first 3D collaboration
resulted in an award winning project for NKF Singapore. We have also written
South East Asia's first ever Wireless RPG (Role Playing Game) for Orange
Gum.
Often mixed with overtones of classic super powers, action, drama, cinematic
kung fu and comedy, NOE creates original and commissioned concepts that
will always stand out in their own unique identity, promoting positivity
and fast moving fun, with a distinct flavour of action heroics which always
display many of our company's essential working hallmarks.
Our
core philsophies are:
'Creators Create The Market'. 'Don't Give The Market What They Want, Give
Them What They Need'.
With the above always in mind, we are confident that we will always be pushing creative barriers, no matter the project.
Jerry Hinds - Founder & Creative Director
Jerry worked in design,
advertising and marketing for nearly twenty years in both the UK and Singapore.
From designer to head writer and creative director, he serviced accounts
ranging from Ford motor cars and AEG Power Tools, to Epson printers and
Mitsubishi Electric home products.
After working in Singapore for 6 years, he formed Nice One Entertainment
in 2002. It was after Jerry's flagship concept, Get Carter! The Last Dragon
Scout, first appeared in the Asiapac Singapore black and white publication,
Comics Alliance 2000, that he realised there was a vacuum in the area of
original character & concept design local companies. Especially for
mainly entertainment driven content.
Get Carter! went on to be serialised as a weekly full-page comic strip in the Streats newspaper published by Singapore Press Holdings from Nov 11, 2000 - Feb 17, 2001.
Finally, came the world release of the full colour US format comicbook.
Jerry has been actively promoting comic related creativity in Singapore; from within the 'Get Carter Roadshow', to workshops. He has also been featured in local English, Chinese and Malay press, international topical web portals, as well as on Channel NewsAsia, and CNBC Asia, where he demonstrated both the traditional & technological aspects of modern comic and character creation.
After the first appearance of Get Carter! The Last Dragon Scout, a major Singapore wireless games provider, Orange Gum, approached Jerry regarding the subject of mobile entertainment.
After throwing around a few ideas, which included a wireless comic, an RPG version of Get Carter! was decided upon.
June 2001 saw the launch of the SMS and WAP games, first in Taiwan, and shortly after in China and Philippines. The SMS version has been available in Singapore since July 2002 on Singtel & M1 networks.
